The Assembly Select Committee on the Status of Boys & Men of Color in California

presents

“Identifying the Intersections of Justice, Education, and Mental Health on Boys and Men of Color Living on California’s Central Coast”

 

The media and members of the public are invited to attend this FREE public informational hearing to listen to local experts, advocates, and youth about how Central Coast boys and men of color are affected by the criminal and juvenile justice systems and their intersection with education and healthcare services.  This event is part of a statewide initiative of the Committee to learn about how communities are working to improve the lives of boys and men of color.

Panelists will provide perspectives from the University of California, the California State University, state agencies, and non-governmental entities.  The hearing will focus on long-term and statewide coastal monitoring efforts amongst the UC and CSU systems, how state entities use data, and citizen science monitoring.

Panelists attending include:

  • Dr. Karina Neilsen – San Francisco State University
  • Dr. James Lindholm – CSU Monterey Bay, Council on Ocean Affairs, Science and Technology
  • Dr. Mark Carr – UC Santa Cruz
  • Cyndi Dawson – Ocean Protection Council
  • Dr. Selena McMillan – Reef Check California
  • Dr. Pete Raimondi – Bureau of Ocean Energy Management

Fort Ord

Please join City of Marina Mayor Bruce Delgado and me as we explore and celebrate a local gem, Historic Fort Ord. We will take a moderate, mile-long walk into the Fort Ord National Monument, to discuss legislative issues and the local flora and fauna. At the end of the walk, we plan to gather for a picnic near Comanche's Grave. Refreshments and light snacks will be offered. You are invited to bring your own lunch and blanket for a full picnic experience!
