Golden State Teacher Grant Program

Teacher Grant Program

California school districts are experiencing a serious shortage of qualified K–12 teachers.  This increased demand comes at a time when the supply of new teachers hovers at a 12-year low.

In 2019, I authored Assembly Bill 1623 with Assemblymember O’Donnell to establish the “Golden State Teacher Grant Program,” providing $20,000 in scholarship grants for students in exchange for their commitment to teaching for four years in a shortage area – which includes Special Education, Bilingual and STEM certifications.

I’m pleased to announce Governor Newsom provided $500 million in his May Budget Revise for the Golden State Teacher Grant Program. The final Golden State Teacher Grant Program agreement detail and requirements can be found here.
