Governor Gavin Newsom and Speaker-Designate Robert Rivas Tour Pajaro Valley Storm Damage

For immediate release:

Pajaro, CA—Today, following a tour of the storm damage in the Pajaro Valley with Governor Newsom and officials, Speaker-Designate Robert Rivas (D-Salinas) released the following statement:

“I want to express my gratitude to Governor Newsom for his leadership and visit to the Pajaro Valley today. The damage is devastating. I will continue to work with the Governor and our local, state, and federal leaders to get our neighbors the immediate support they need. We must accelerate repairs to our levee system to ensure this never happens again. Working together with state and federal officials in recent years, we have secured an unprecedented $400 million to complete the levee repairs. We must now do everything in our power to expedite the project and protect residents.

Our farmworker community has been devastated by these floods. Many local and state agencies are coming together to provide resources to our farmworkers and my office and staff are available around the clock to help. More must be done, and I will continue to work with Pajaro and the surrounding area to help them recover and rebuild.”
