Storm Resources

March 13, 2023

The State of California is working closely with federal and local officials in communities across Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties to rapidly respond to the impacts of the levee breach on the Pajaro River. Our hearts are with those displaced by the floodwaters and we will continue to work to support survivors in the days to come.

On behalf of our respective offices, please know that the full weight of the State of California has been put into motion, and our federal partners stand ready to aid local emergency responders hard at work helping our neighbors. We are protecting public safety regionally through the deployment of high-water vehicles from the California National Guard and swiftwater rescue teams from local government fire agencies. Simultaneously, we are employing flood fight teams and scientists from the Department of Water Resources and California Conservation Corps to rapidly fill the breach in the levee as soon as it is safe to do so.

We also remind Californians to be prepared for additional storms that may be on the way by signing up for emergency alerts from your county, creating a family emergency plan and checking on neighbors who may need an extra hand.

In the coming days, we will continue to stand with the communities impacted by these floods as they rebuild and recover.
